Default 52 F1 Clutch/Brake pedal bushings

The bushings for the pedals seem to be worn out. I bought new bushings but I am having trouble removing the rivet that holds the assembly together.

The opposite end of the rivet has some sort of waffle pattern in it. When I try to drive it thru it goes a little bit and stops.
Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?

They are staked in place, they do not come out easy. Grind it down and go to work on it.

In addition to all of the above suggestions, I always use a pneumatic hammer to zip 'em right out. DD

What are you using to replace the rivet? I can't find the rivet with Ford part # 60542-S.

Another one of those jobs. I didn't see anything holding the pedal shaft from coming out....... so I put it in the press and sheared the pin/rivet thing when pressing it apart.
Ended up machining another pin/rivet.
