Hawaii-Model A Activities
Hi, am going to Oahu, Honolulu April 15th to 24th. What's going on in the Model A world and old car activities? Any hints/tips on tourism in general would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Franco |

Franco: I would also visit Maui, The Big Island of Hawaii, and Kaui. Rent one of those little 4 wheel drive Jeeps with the short wheel base (Parking is at a premium). Drive right up to the volcano on Hawaii. The whole place is paradise. The only thing that could be better would be to have your own Model A to drive around. There is a MAFFCA Region on Maui. Enjoy your vacation! Why don't I live there??

When on Maui I asked many people about Model A's. Not one ever remembered seeing one in the last 25 years. In fact many times I was told there were very, very few antique cars beneath 1970. I also found traffic to be horrendous.Obviously I was disappointed that I never even caught a glimpse of a Model A.

Go to the beach, look at the women, do some surfing, visit Pearl Harbor, relax, your model A will be waiting when you get back

I did all that also but I mistakenly thought the old cars would be plentiful. I did not think about the salt water. What I did think about was no salt on the roads like in the northern states. I also developed a great taste for Macadamia nuts and the pineapples ripened in the field rather than the ones picked green and sent to the mainland !

While I was there a bud wondered how many laps around Oahu he could make in his model A before it broke down?? He grabbbed a Wahine and several cases of beer and launched from a beeeg party we were having. Each lap took 24 hours as they sleep on the beach etc. 3 -1/2 days/laps later they got back to her place just as her folks arrived from the mainland. I'm told they were not impressed... |

Saw some old cars on the Big Island, lots of farm country but didn't see one on Oahu in the late 80s. Oahu is like the big city with lots of commuters in and out of Honolulu.
