Default steering wheel / horn rod

Hi guys - I need advice - will a 1939 Ford Deluxe steering wheel, fit onto a 1939 Standard column ? Are any modifications needed ? Will my standard horn / light rod work with the Deluxe wheel ? And how strait does the rod need to be ? And if it is not perfectly strait what will result ? ....thanks !

I have seen several '39 Standards with the Banjo (Deluxe) steering wheel on them, don't know if any modification had to be done but I would doubt it. Your Standard light/horn rod should work as well.

On the straightness...the rod has to ride inside the steering shaft smoothly with minimal friction or it will turn as you steer...you will be continually flashing lights and of course suddenly plunging into darkness at night. Roll the thing on a flat table to locate problem areas.
Aside from straightness, anothe source of trouble can be a standard woodruff key at the top. The proper key is actually a Ford part that is subtly shallower than a Woodruff, and a hardware store key can contact the rod.

No mods are necessary. All goes together just fine.
