1939 Mercury Convertible at auction today!
Saw this on the Mecum auction website a month ago and it will be on the block today. Slightly modified from original production but nothing too radical and it still has a flathead in it. Will be watching today on my tablet at work to see how much it brings. https://www.mecum.com/lots/AZ0321-45...y-convertible/

Re: 1939 Mercury Convertible at auction today!
Nice car but, the "resale white" is not a winning color, IMO.
Would be interesting to get the full story re: "stored" for 40 years". Also, wonder why "the restorer" of the dash didn't make all the wood grain pattern flow in one horizontal direction? Would have looked better. No doubt, a lot of work and $$ was spent on that build. Wish they had posted photos of the under carriage. Last edited by 19Fordy; 03-19-2021 at 10:34 AM. |

It’s very interesting how the photos that were posted a month ago that were indoors show much better as far as the paint color, looks much darker. The video under tent cover shows that to a degree but if your driving in sunshine a different color choice might have been the way to go.

Man, I almost LIKE that thing....EXCEPT for the hideous wood graining, as someone pointed-out. The upper hose set-up on the passenger side actually is kind of neat looking, and a simple method of getting around that offset generator. One more interesting point on this car.....the two "anti-chatter" rods go FORWARD to the front crossmember, as was done on SOME '41-'48 Canadian Fords. Maybe "rockfla" or someone knowledgeable in Mercs could comment as to whether ALL '39 Mercs had these rods going FORWARD, or was it only on the convertibles? EXAMPLE pictures below of these "forward-facing" rods. DD ........ |

Very interesting V8Coopman
Never seen those before, my Mercury does not have those, could it also be an early/late as they made a running design change??? Maybe mine got removed?? Wouldn't mind installing some though!!!! ANOTHER interesting thing that caught my eye but wasn't sure to post is the absence of a voltage regulator on the convertible. NOTE upper right in the two photos, Maybe built into the generator??? |

V8:
The red v8 shown above is one I removed from came a 1941 Ford coupe a few years ago. The car had been stored in a Ft. Lauderdale, FL warehouse garage for about 30 years and the owner passed away. It was a "someday" car. No, I'm not in the photo. Last edited by 19Fordy; 03-19-2021 at 01:34 PM. |

NOT a huge 41 fan but that's a pretty righteous looking coupe. I'd loved to have that as an everyday type driver, had a great patina!!!!

Re: 1939 Mercury Convertible at auction today!
Like some, I didn't care for the wood graining on the dash or the Buick chrome spears on the skirts. However, would love to see it in my possession, beautiful car.

Re: 1939 Mercury Convertible at auction today!
Every '39 Merc dash I have seen, including mine, was wood grained, however never seen the delta panel coming to the steering wheel wood grained.

Shoebox 39 Mercury Dash's were never wood grained, they were painted light gold-ish, light tan-ish fine metal flake finish. The window garnish is wood-grained BUT not the dash. At least the USA version. Last edited by rockfla; 11-26-2023 at 04:28 PM. |
