Default labaron bonney top question

Hello all
I recently obtained a 1930 model A Roadster Deluxe that has a Lebaron
Bonney top on it. I think I have figured out how to raise and lower the top
and have bought a top boot for it. What I can't figure out is what the little
tab with the small chrome "hook" like thing on the bottom is. This is
located directly below the top's rear window on the inside.
Also when you have to screw in the screws for the top boot snaps, should a person drill a starter hole before screwing in the screws? I'm a little concerned about the wood splitting where the screws will penetrate it.
Also, I was able to wire up "Lucille" for turn signals. I used the ElectoTech kit with a hidden switch and small indicator light. My knowledge base of the Model A is almost nil, but thanks to several of the forum members who responded to an earlier thread, the install came out great. Nice to have turn signals- safer.
Thanks
Lance

I think the tab is used in conjunction with a top boot? Hopefully someone who really knows will chime in.

Predrilling old, hard wood is always a very good idea for the reason you mentioned.

Hi Dollar Bill and Old 31
Thank you for the quick reply and the pics.
My A doesn't have the small metal clip on the upholstered
back vertical board that you two have per your pics. I guess
I'll have to call Lebaron Bonney to find out what the situation
is all about. Thanks again for your help and pics - I tried to
put a pic of my rear window on my original thread but I
couldn't get it to attach.

When in Hershey last October, I asked Lebarron Bonney the same question. They said it was a tab to grab the curtain when putting it in the up position against the inside of the top.
