Thanks, I like the coupe and I think I am really narrowing in on the Copra and Chicle Drab combination and keeping the wheels black.

There is more meaning to this picture than you probably realize. The passenger in that speedster is my daughter, ...who is friends with Sarah the speedster driver/owner from Michigan --who BTW helped her dad build her car. ( Click HERE to view the article in Hemmings Mtr. News. )

Many of the kids in the Model-T club have their own speedsters but often times will choose to ride with each other while on tour just so they can talk. Below is a picture of my daughter's speedster taken in Minnesota where the roles are reversed and Sarah is the passenger. Beside her car is my son driving his T pick-up with a friend, ...yet at OCF a friend of Blake's offered to let him drive the friend's speedster around during the Gaslight Tour. Amazing the friendships that are made thru old cars!!

Here is a AA question: why in post #3 is the rear axle of the tandom axle AA off of the ground?

I think the night parade would be really cool to see!

Where do you guys recommend staying while visiting? I've been at the Dearborn Inn in the past while at the Henry Ford, loved it, easy walk to Greenfield Village, always seems booked up whenever I try to reserve a room!
I stayed at the giant pink Best Western in May. It's about a mile from the Henry Ford & GV. It was a really really nice hotel and a lot of model a era ads lining the hallways. It was really just a neat place to stay, and very reasonably prices.

thank you, Brent. These are great shots. Is the 10 wheeler the same one that was at Hershey last year?

It is my opinion that the Fordor in picture 1245 is incorrectly painted in Copra, however the Coupe (whose owner is a Fordbarner but I'll keep his name anonymous for now) is the correct color of Copra & Chicle.

.
I am interested in your comment about the correct color of Copra and Chicle. I have seen many Copra/Chicle with a greenish tint. My coupe is Chicle/Copra with more of a brown tint. I have been told the brownish tint is the correct Copra/Chicle. Is that your understanding also? I personally prefer the brownish tint.

Thanks for all the great pictures. I especially enjoyed the pre-Model T brass Fords.

The rear wheels appear to be off the ground because there is not any weight on them. My thoughts are if the 'tag axle' had equal tire/wheel pressure as the drive axle, as soon as the vehicle crossed a dip in the road, the drive axle tires could lose traction.

I heard the owner had just finished this restoration a few weeks before, and when comparing pictures, it appears the truck at OCF is a tad longer, and there are some feature differences. I posted pix of the Hershey truck below for reference but my initial guess would be 'No'.

Thanks Ken, I too am a brass-era enthusiast and own a couple of brass-era cars.

The brownish tint that you mention is the correct shade of Copra. The original color was formulated by Ford and manufactured by them, and if I recall somewhere in the mid to latter 30's Ditzler became Ford's paint manufacturer. This original color was mixed in lacquer. Ditzler later became PPG, and through the years as paint lines became obsolete, the formulas were reconfigured to match the latest paint line. Somewhere along the way, the Copra "Brown" formulation became more "Copra Gray", --likely due to an error on the reformulator's part. Many hobbyists not knowing the difference have used the color you mention thinking/assuming it was correct. In addition, many hobbyists have taken the avenue that as long as their paint color shades are close, it would be acceptable. Then when someone (such as yourself) asks the car owner what is the color combination, the owner responds it is Copra & Chicle Drab. The restorer accepts his colors as authentic and thus paints his vehicle in the same incorrect shade. If you search this forum, you will find much written about the incorrect color of Chicle.

Thanks for posting up the pics. Some of my favorites were of the kids, out having a good time and not so hung up about what everybody else thought about their rides!

Brent - The pictures just show that the Model A (and Model T, plus others) hobby is alive and well. (My opinion.)

Thank you very much for sharing.

I went to OCF every single year for over 20 years. I was lucky that it always coincided with a business convention, but that has been canceled for the past 3 years. I was going to go this year even though I couldn't make it a tax-deductible write-off but health issues got in the way (DAMN!).

Next year my wife will finally be retired so I think we'll go together. It was downright painful sitting here last weekend knowing what I was missing. Best car show anywhere, hands down.

The next time I go, I will be staying in my motorhome. This time we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express over on Enterprise which is about 2 miles away. It is not your typical HI Express but a very era-furnished hotel that just happens to be franchised by HI. Great place to stay IMO. On the other hand, many attendees park their motorhome & trailer in the Beech Street lot and there is a nice atmosphere that happens in the evenings there. The 'Marco' of Chevrolets is a gentleman named Pinky Randall who I grew up knowing the name in the hobby. He was parked across the aisle from a group we were hanging out with and I was able to fellowship with him for quite a bit. Kinda like the atmosphere at Hershey each evening when the crowd has dispersed and vendors remain.
Pinky Randall is the real deal. I got to meet him and work with him on his Light 6, a very rare car. Might even be 1 of 1. After few months we became true friends. I look for him at Hershey every year but missed him last year.
