Default Model A light switch

Greetings everyone.

Can anyone give me some ideas of the problems with light switches? I have a 1928 Standard Roadster. I am in the process of rewiring her and have noticed that of the several bits and pieces of light switches I have in stock, that they are not interchangeable. I seem to have found a body that fits but am having difficulty fitting to the steering column. Any thoughts please?

HI Tony
The repro light switches I have seen are Junk ,Try to use a rusty original one if you can.

The early 28's used a 2 position light switch; bright and dim on one bulb in headlight

I don't think that will work with a later loom.
If you bought a new loom you would have to use a later switch as well

Hope this helps
I'm sure someone smarter than me can explain it better

I repaired a light switch holder assembly for a 29 closed cab pickup. The two sheet metal cans would not stay connected and assembled in place because the tiny bump or nub on the bottom half was worn and loose in the matching slot on the top half (which was also worn but not as badly.) I used a small vise grip pliers and some hot melt glue. I fastened a tiny ball bearing to one jaw and a small washer to the other. That allowed me to press out the nub or bump on the bottom half enough to give it some grip. Now it holds fast and works fine. Seems like a cute trick to me to make an original part usable again. Also note: these parts and the switch plate and the steering column are all "keyed" so that they fit together in one particular way. If the "spider" is in the correct orientation they all fit only one way and function correctly.

That's a good tip on the ball bearing and washer.
