Default Gearbox over filled ?

A few weeks ago I drained and filled my gearbox. I filled it up till it came out the top fill plug. Every time I drive it I have been getting a sizable leak just under the rear of the gear box. Could this be from over filling? Trying to find its natural level? Or could this be a leak somewhere to the output of the gear box. Thanks for looking.

Have you checked the level of the differential? Could be the drive shaft seal is bad and it is migrating from there.

When you drained the transmitter, was it low ? Everyone tends to fill until the oil comes back out the fill hole. Thats fine, but, it does leave it a bit over filled. If the rear transmission bearing is an original non-sealed bearing then the oil will migrate into the u-joint assembly ,as it should, and mix with the grease. So, its suppose to leak a little bit.

Make sure the vent on the tower is open.Once it has been filled with old grease, hardened up,and painted a few times it will be hard to find.I just showed on to s fellow,he swore up and down he had searched and it just wasn't there.I climbed in the truck with a DA,hit the side of the tower with 80 grit, and a big black dot jumped right out of the bare metal. He'd been telling me he had been searching and scratching on that tower looking but I could see he had not gotten too serious about it.There were no scratches in his pretty paint.Make sure you have enough grease in the U-joint housing too, that will help keep the relatively thin gear oil in the car.

Isn't there a plate of some sort a person can install on the rear of the tranny that goes over the end of a couple of shafts? This plate, the way I hear it, is suppose to stop rear end tranny leaks. People with more knowledge than I on the item could comment on this.

Did it leak before you re serviced it ?...The level dose not have to be at the very top [running out] if you can reach it with your index finger, it's ok, same as your eng. oil, better to be a little low [1/2 qt.] then over serviced. JMO.

I use a drill bit and twist it with my fingers while holding a vacuum cleaner hose next to the hole, so the dirt is sucked away rather than into the hole.
