Default 35 Water Pump

Guys,

I have one bad water pump and was going to install a new kit in it. The kits all have shafts with a pin for holding on the pulley. My water pumps, both sides, don't have pins that hold on the pulleys. Are my pulleys pressed on then? Can I press the shaft out and put a new kit in it and just keep my old shaft? What's my best course of action? The water pump is rioght hand and has the water outlet that feeds the heater.

Thanks much,

Peder

Send it, or both to Charlie ny. He did some for me and they have done great so far.

Trel,
You will discover that the shafts will be worn so they must be replaced.
In a situation such as yours I drill and tap the nose of the pulley for 1/4-20 and
use a dog point set screw to secure the pulley to the shaft. The most important
item on a rebuild list is to renew the seal face in the pump body. This face must
be smooth and absolutely square with the bushed shaft bore. I fixture the pump
in my lathe to do this. When you assemble the pump be sure the pulley is pressed
on the shaft to the point where .060 end play remains...take it slow here or
the archaic carbon seal will be crushed.
OR
Dial up Skip Haney and see what he has going on with the early pumps. I'm not getting into a contest here ,each to his own. I still do about 400
pounds of these in head pumps each year.
