Acceleration uphill

When Accelerating uphill, my 49 stock Merc motor, cuts out. This only happens on steep inclines. Any help appreciated.

My first thought is plugged fuel filter. At least that was always the symptom of mine plugging up which it did frequently before I replaced my rotten gas tank.

Henry, That's a very good diagnosis, but i'd generalize the call to merely call it "fuel starvation".

Check the fuel level in the carb. Float may be set to low. G.M.

Good point. Could be the fuel filter, fuel pump low pressure or low volume, low float in the carb bowl as G.M. said, even plugged fuel line I've heard of before.
