Default EZ Steer Installation Issues?

A buddy of mine just had one hell of a time installing the EZ Steer steering system on a 29 Tudor. He is an excellent Model A mechanic with 50 years experience or more. Has anyone else had difficulty installing this aftermarket system? Many modifications needed to be made so it would fit. It's advertised as a bolt on improvement.

Thanks...just curious about others experiences.

Take it out now. Get your money back. Piece of garbage. I have a stack of them I have taken out. They do not work.

If it is advertised as a bolt on and isn't use that as a reason to send it back. Search the archives for comments on this unit.

John had a good idea, it just didn't work. I have one in my garage that doesn't work and was unable to get it returned or refunded. Apparently for the '31 it is more of a "bolt-in" but it still just didn't work more than about a month. I didn't think he was still selling that POS.

I replaced it with an F100 box and it works great

We sent one out for evaluation and it appears that there is some design flaws in the case that do not allow for adjustments. Looks like either the F100 or F1 box modified to fit the Model A is the only way to get the steering modification you are looking for. Secrets of Speed's latest issue show how to modify the F1 box to fit the Model A. There are several places making up F100 boxes that you can buy already done. We used Mel Gross several years ago his son Randy Gross is still doing the modifications (714) 292-8660. He is located in Southern California.

As the others have said, I don't know of anyone who has had any good luck with the EZ steer.
Randy Gross is a good guy to do business with for brakes so I imagine he is the same with the steering conversion.
Another way to go is with a good rebuilt 2 tooth box with a properly honed bushing rather than the bearing along with the shortened pitman arm.

If he is such a good mechanic then why does he need to install the Ezsteer?

A properly rebuilt A really has no need for the band aid.

Most wise enthusiasts have read enough that they don't invest in this gizmo but they are still able to sell them to the novice in our hobby. If it is not what it is promised send it back because misrepresentation is adequate reason for a return. Wayne

His "lifetime guarantee" means nothing. Or maybe it means: "guaranteed to spend your lifetime trying to get your money back".

I eventually just took my advanced degree in the School of Hard Knocks and moved on.

Kevin....owner of the car wanted it. He also put a new 4 speed transmission in it at owners request. Lots of $$. Buddy would have rebuilt the existing box. Buddy has forgot more about model A's than most owners I know ever knew...including me. : -)

Are you referring to the EZ Steer Kit with teflon seats http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/486 for the tie rod or are you discussing something else?

I'm absorbing it all so I don't make mistakes... Thanks.

The EZ Steer that they are talking about is a replacement steering box. See http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/t...rience.595096/
