Default Any alternator guys help out with this one...?

Pulled my alternator off to diagnose no charging issue and rebuild. I noticed there was no condenser which im sure is ok due to the lack of radio or other electronics. There is a jumper wire inside and a metal jumper on the outside. Does anyone know the purpose for the jumper inside? Im trying to figure out how to go about installing the new kit. I have never seen these modifications.

I'm wondering what the glob of stuff is near each end of the rectifying diodes?
That's the 6 pack of diodes in the finned heat sink.

Those globs are melted insulating material...

its a 12v negative ground system...that may be the problem. I don't know, it hasn't charged since ive had the car. Im just now getting around to checking it out. Just looked sort of janky. heres the back of it, had it mostly taken apart when I took this, obviously but, theres that jumper bar or whatever it would be called.

If youv'e converted to 12V,I would SUGGEST, just buying a 1 wire alt. Instead of usuing that case, and the unknown, you would be better off just replacing it. Thhey aren't expensive= less than a hun,and you will know that it will be correct. Besides, what else could be fried in yours......
Just a suggestion is all, but, without a crap shoot,You just might solve your problem and never have to worry about it. Plus, cleans up wiring.

Looks like an earth link. Many of these Delco units had a link made of pressed and folded steel. It probably went missing under the bench.
The melted looking stuff was a glue substance that was used to eliminate vibration.
You can put a condenser externally.

It looks like it was an attempt to set it up as a positive ground alt and if the rect is pos ground stuff will melt down on your neg ground system. Buy a neg ground rect and and a AC fired VR.
You can put together and be go to go, Under $40 bucks.
The AC fired VR will eliminate the diode trio and the Alt will turn on at ultra low speed.
If you cannot get an AC VR get one for a 21si and wire it in. I would not use a drop in self excited VR.
