Speedway distributer

Has anybody in Fordbarn land used the Speedway electronic distributer on 42 to 48 Flatheads. (part # 9108352). If so, what coil did you use? Speedway tech is recommending a 6 V0lt positive ground coil (part # 44740011) Seems strange to me that you would use a 6 volt coil on a 12 volt negative ground system. Please e mail me direct at [email protected] if you can shed some light on my question.

That is not the distributor he was asking about. Notice part number is one digit off.

OP indicates car has been converted to 12 volt negative ground, and probably ignition resistor is gone. Therefore, with the 9108352 distributor, any standard 3 ohm coil could be used. The Bosche blue has a good reputation.

I agree that this distributor will probably not be any better than a properly set-up original.

Notice this type distributor has mounting bolt slots, not mounting holes. Permits unlimited timing adjustments on the car. But that can be difficult on a flathead, which has no timing mark to shoot at. Again, probably be better-off to stay with an original distributor.

Every one I've worked on has needed the timing curve redone to suit the flathead's needs.

Yep. My "37 came to me with a similar distributor by Mallory. I can tweak the timing to get it good running at cruise. Or get it good under hard acceleration. But not both!
