Default Cotter pin in boot lid

Got my lid off for repainting, cleaning up the underside and in the middle of the lid is a hollow with a cotter pin sticking out, just curious what it`s for if anything,

I sure don't recognize your picture as being part of a hood. Do you have a picture from a bit more distant?

Is not the "boot" lid also known as the trunk lid?

Sorry, trunk, it`s not a big deal, just that I wondered why a neatly bent over cotter with no apparent use should be there...........................

Since the model A did not have a trunk (or boot) I am assuming that you have a stand alone trunk that sits on a rack. As far as your question goes, I don't know, but in general a cotter pin is sometimes placed in a hole to keep it open to allow free draining of oil or water in places where it may be plugged up by debris.

Dennis
There was a square piece of felt that was held on by the cotter key. It was to stop drumming of the metal.

So what was the thing called when the coupe or roadster didn't have
a rumble seat.
