Default Stromberg 48

I have been running a Stromberg carburettor from an early Holden engine for years but I've recently learned that a Stromberg 48 would be better. I have never seen one here so I'm turning to you guys in the hope that someone might be able to help me find a rebuilt one. I'm posting here rather than in the "Wanted" section of the swap meet because it seems to me that there might be someone who restores them and might be able to supply one without a core.
BTW, the 48 has 2 venturis, each the same size as the one (single venturi) I am using now.
I'd also like to hear experiences from those who have used them..

Arnold, I use a 97 on mine, you can get them brand new , I just do a mod on the float needle valve and it will run with out a fuel pump right down to an empty tank.,
Let me know if you want some pick.
All good here.

Look up "Uncle Max" or "Charlie NY" on the Fordbarn early V8 forum. They both have rebuilt ones.

A 97 would work just as well on a touring engine, and are easier to find.

OK, Jim knows what he is talking about so I'll widen my search to include a 97. Are they single or double venturi?

Lawrie, I've seen mention of what was called the Big 97. Sounds interesting
You know the towing and touring requirements. I am basically searching in the dark. Which way would you go and what improvement did the big 97 make on your A.
BTW, we will be up your way again this year (A van in tow) as part of a group of 5 cars doing the Atherton Table lands, Gulf country and back down the centre and home through the Flinders Ranges. Late June to early August. We will be over nighting in Emerald. Maybe we catch up? How's Carol going? maybe PM me a reply.

Or find a Holley 94 with the correct power valve, and get performance with efficiency. The Stromberg dumps fuel for enrichment, the Holley measure vacuum.. both match the model a engines air flow spot on.. about 160 CFM or so, stock carb flows about 80 CFM..

Its an easy job to adjust the 97 power valve to deliver the right amount, using an AF meter,
Arnold, the big 97 is NOT what you want, just the stock one.

Thanks guys, I have some ringing around and emailing to do. Once again, it seems the more I learn, the more confused I become! Lots of good information here.
