Re: New Manufactured Zenith Carburators
We have one our 29. Runs really great.
Tried a rebuilt original that I ended up replacing with the new Zenith. They are expensive for a reason. Enjoy. |

Re: New Manufactured Zenith Carburators
Bought one when they first came out for around $250. Ran great the first season, but wouldn't start the car the next spring. So took it back to the vendor and he had it "rebuilt". Don't know exactly what the rebuilder did. Running great ever since. Vendor told me that all of them need to be worked over. This was years ago, so maybe the new ones are are better?

Re: New Manufactured Zenith Carburators
I bought a new one from Snyder's on the day I got my first social security check! I think I paid about $400 for it. I put it on my car and it wouldn't work. I called Snyder's and they told me that they stored them on their side and the float was probably stuck. Told me to wrap on the side of it with a screwdriver handle. Never a problem since. That was about 9 years ago!

Re: New Manufactured Zenith Carburators
I have three of them here, two won’t idle wort beans and the other lacks power at any speed. My original Zenith runs and idles fantastic. I have narrowed the problem to the top half on all three units.

Re: New Manufactured Zenith Carburators
These carburetors are made from repro parts, assembled and sold. They are not tested so that leaves room for the problems buyers experience.

Re: New Manufactured Zenith Carburators
I bought a used repop Zenith carb a few years ago for -$100-. The seller said it had problems with it. I've not had any problems with it and in fact it is on my car now.

Re: New Manufactured Zenith Carburators
I purchased one of the AIR BALANCED ZENITH CARBS and ran it for the first 1000 miles of a road trip and it was getting about 4 miles to the gallon less than my original. I replaced it with the original and finished the trip. Put the new carb on the shelf when I returned from the trip about two years ago and kind of forgot about it. I will move it into my work area and start tuning....
Good Day! I was running it with an air filter. Last edited by Dave in MN; 06-09-2020 at 03:55 PM. |

I didn’t purchase any of them. They belong to other Model A owners

Re: New Manufactured Zenith Carburators
Brattons IS working on a batch of the new carbs. We have found a small stockpile of new castings and are currently working on assembly and testing them. If you are interested call and get on the list as these will be gone soon.

Update: I found the problem. The hole for the throttle shaft was way too BIG, sucking in air. Made the engine run super lean and would not idle. I had to install an oversize throttle shaft to cure the problem. And this is a new carb? Anyway, something to check for. I wouldn't buy another.

Now that's funny......... I have never heard "buying a piece of $h**" described in such a nice way. One statement says it all. I love it, to bad this hobby is faced with this type of part |

Re: New Manufactured Zenith Carburators
Another alternative is to purchase a rebuilt or have one rebuilt by Jim Bullock in Texas,. Flow tested jets, , tested, and does exceptionally nice work. The few people that have had issues report he makes things right quickly.

Nothing beats a correctly built and tested original Zenith for the model A IMHO...

Any idea why they are still out of stock at Snyders and Brattons and some others?

Re: New Manufactured Zenith Carburators
I bought a new carb back when they were $300. I was having lots of trouble at the time with the old carb that I had rebuilt 3 times before. Put that new carb on and has been on my pickup ever since and runs perfect. I would buy another.

I'm at a loss as to why someone would pay that much for a carb when you can pick up a core for 50 to 100 and pay Jim 150 to rebuild it. |

Re: New Manufactured Zenith Carburators
best Zenith "A" carb I ever had was a rebuild from Berts.
$200 exchange about 10 years ago. Our unrestored 31 Coupe would not run worth a hoot until I put the Bert's rebuild on. now running a "B" Zenith on the Town Sedan that came with it, no problems in over 11,000 miles.

Re: New Manufactured Zenith Carburators
Are we talking about the Zenith carb in it's original design, or the Zenith Advanced design carb?
A man in our club (he is 100 years old now) has had a Zenith Advanced Design carb on his Tudor for years now. |
