Still running the 40 year old mechanical pump on the 52 Merc. It works fine but would be nice to have a primer lever on it for when it sits a week without running and the carburetor drains. I just pour a little gas into the "teapot" which works ok but a primer lever on the pump would be simpler. I've seen them on old Wisconsin V4 and some tractor engines but not on a flathead V8.
