Default Pre Install Procedure Front Spring

Three years ago I replaced a sagging front spring on my 31 Slant Window Sedan. This is a very straight forward job and I did not experience any problems. But and there is always a but! The spring was new and I did not know that it was required to disassemble the spring and bevel the edges of each leaf (Les Andrews has details) then you reassemble using graphite or anti seize between each leaf then put the covers on.

The problem I have been having "Which was getting worst" is no suspension travel because the spring leafs were actually locked in place because when they were originally assembled they were also painted, it was like driving a cement truck and my front steel fenders were actually starting to crack from the vibration.

So if you are replacing your springs this is a very important task or you like me will feel like you are driving a cement truck that is not loaded! . Just wanted to pass this information on and if you have recently replaced a front spring and did not disassemble and bevel you now know why your car rides so darn hard.(The rear springs that are sold are already tapered)

I've used slip-plate (graphite paint) on model T springs and that made a big difference.

dont forget this holds true for original springs also, when restoring best to grind the notch out of the spring left from the one above it and bevel the one above it. My AA had some nasty grooves on the rear springs.
