Re: Expensive valve spring shims
The NAPA shims don't say "ISKY" ??? Actually they are Hastings, so no excuses.

Re: Expensive valve spring shims
The NAPA ones are a set of 16 at .060 ea. for $10 and the correct dia. for a flathead? If so, do you have a part number? That's about $.63 each, that sounds very cheap for that type of part.

Re: Expensive valve spring shims
I looked at NAPA's website and they list 50 different CompCams shims, but give no info. Prices are 75 - 90 cents each. O'Reillys sells Sealed Power shims for 29 cents each.

Re: Expensive valve spring shims
I thought the thickness was the issue here. I have not looked at shims yet (I need to!) but most shims are thin, these are .060. Does anyone sell the .060 shims at a cheap price?

Re: Expensive valve spring shims
My extra ones are marked V.S.I. 203 on the non serriated side. I bought them a couple of years ago from a local parts store & can't find the reciept. They are approx. 1.250 od x .810 id x .060 thick. I know that they were not that expensive though. Bill

Re: Expensive valve spring shims
The correct spring shim number for the Flathead is "101", it may having variations in the prefix letters for different vendors.
There are A101's, B101's, and C101's. These are .060", .030", and .015" respectively. The "VSI" line would read:VSI A101, etc. We use strictly Pioneer's shims here, their numbers are A-101, B-101, and C-101. I do not purchase any "C's" anymore, really unnecessary. They should measure 1.000" O.D. and .688" I.D! These are the very same shims for the early Ford (8N) tractors. (Add) The #203 shims mentioned above here would be for a SBC, and possibly a few others! Thanks, Gary in N.Y. P.S. With respect to the extremely high pricing mentioned above I would suspect that is an error, it doesn't make any sense at all. I have no pricing available today on the Pioneer line but would figure .50/each as fair! A set of 16 should average $8.00 or so.

Re: Expensive valve spring shims
Maybe the high dollar ones are hardened for high pressure racing springs to withstand valvetrain harmonics that make the springs dance around and eat soft shims.
