Default Model B Cam

A quick question: We opened up a friend's motor and found a Model B cam (fuel pump lobe) inside. As I recall, the Model B cam is directly interchangeable with a Model A cam, right?

Model B cam followers are different than Model A, the solid original ones anyway.

Go to Vince Falters Ford Garage, here is a link to cams and tappets:

Hey Brian,
Yeah, they can be used and have been used as you state.
I'd just be aware that the B lifters were a bit larger (foot) area when using. Maybe whoever installed knew and installed the B lifters also ?

I wanted to run my model b cam but no body makes the 1.187 tappet, the largest available is 1.125,the last set of a tappets the base wore down rapidly,I don't know if the tappets were inferior or the cam just ate them up. I forgot that Egge machine has 1.140 tappets available, part number f200mb ph# (866) 996-3443

I think I would call Bill Stipe of Stipe Machine, stipemachine.com,[email protected], (920) 467-9700. He sells cams with the Model B grind and should have a source for the tappets.

I run original model B ,not reground cams in two model A engines and run the single or self locking adjustable lifters from Brattons and Snyders and never a problem . I run reground model A cams ground to Winfield super street 3/4 race grind with the same lifters from Bratton of Snyders and have run these engines for years with good service. You may can find original model B lifters at Berts. Model B lifters are longer and have a larger base

I found a B cam in my diamond block motor. Is this a diamond block?

These is an. Interesting article in one of our trade magazines this month regarding the use of the Model B engines in race cars of the day. The gave the "Offys" plenty of competition. Many had OVH cam head modifications and other exotic changes.
