1931 Roadster test day
Yesterday I got my roadster off the jackstands and took it for a test drive. I am very pleased with it. I've always wanted a roadster, and I was lucky enough to be able to build this one within a budget that I can afford! This, of course, with the help of several Lehigh Valley Model A Club members who tipped me onto the car in the first place and others who helped me out by supplying help and parts.
It's a stock driver and it drives, rides, handles and stops very well. It still needs many finishing touches and adjustments, but it is roadworthy. It's really fun to drive! My test run was only five to ten miles but I felt like going across the state, and it was only 40 degrees. |

Re: 1931 Roadster test day
One question: I have to install the vacuum wiper hose that goes from the stanchion to the wiper motor. What is the position/location of the two little clips that hold the wiper hose? This is a repro windshield frame that has never been drilled.

Congratulations, job well done. Very nice looking roadster.
I built up one of those 30 years ago from a channeld body and swap meet parts. it was a challenge then, i'm sure it's much more difficult now. be proud. |

Re: 1931 Roadster test day
Thanks. I bought the car with (what I think was supposed to be) stone brown paint already on it. It may be off a few shades. It was kind of blah until we added the deep stone gray. Still need the pinstripe. Not perfect paint as it was amateur and got some dings in storage, but good for a driver. I plan to add more chips and dings.
When I bought it the body (it is a Brookville) was bolted to the chassis, but the only work they had done to the chassis was sandblast and paint it. Lots of joints were full of sand. The brakes were trashed-- it looked like someone put a handful of stones in each drum to help it stop. It also had a broken axle, and a valve was stuck so badly, it compressed the spring and pulled the guide down into the valve chamber. I had to cut the valve to get it out. Also, someone had bent the front wishbone (I guess to change the caster) and the result was you couldn't even bolt it up at the ball. I wondered if they expected it to run this way! A father and a son had it before I did. Unfortunately they both died and left a basket case. |

My clips are held on by the wind wing brackets. I believe that is correct.

Todd, My steel stanchion tube is held on by the wind wing brackets. I have that done. I'm talking about two little clips (Bratton P/N 24010) that hold the rubber hose as it goes horizontally across the top of the windshield. Thanks! Brian

Re: 1931 Roadster test day
For the rubber vacuum tube along the top... I just held them in place by hand to determine where they made the tube run and look the best and drilled the pilot holes and screwed 'em in. Also a driver, so wasn't too picky.
