Oddball early (?) Holley (?) carburetor
This belongs to a friend of mine. It doesn't seem to be in any of the authoritative carb and restoration books. Can anyone explain it?
He provided these notes: SALIENT FEATURES: Upper body marking H raised* Lower body marking H raised* Throttle plate unmarked Venturi dowel pin steel Double venturi Secondary well integral GAV seat brass Assembly bolt head width ½ inch Assembly bolt head thickness 9/16 inch Float 7.16 from hinge to solder line Bowl vent none Idle air vent hole is 9/32 inch *Early Holley manufactured Zenith carburetors body marking letters were indented later raised markings were from January to June 1929 and accompanied by Zenith-2 on the float chamber exterior. (Note: I have some other photos of some of the specific features.) |

Re: Oddball early (?) Holley (?) carburetor
The bowl vent is the hole closest to the double venturi. Nice looking carb.
Does the choke lever have a hole for a pull wire? |

Re: Oddball early (?) Holley (?) carburetor
Looks to me like the choke lever has a hole for the wire. Some of the external hardware may have been replaced.

Re: Oddball early (?) Holley (?) carburetor
False alarm. It looks like this carb appears in the Judging Standards, page 1-14 (Rev. 2011). Sorry.

Re: Oddball early (?) Holley (?) carburetor
The choke driver is made of brass which is an after market item, the original on these early carbs was pinned.

Re: Oddball early (?) Holley (?) carburetor
What you have is NOT an odd ball carb it appears to be a mid 28 Holley double venturi carb. It is a fairly rare 28 Model a carb, made by Holley. While the 28 Model A carbs are generally all referred to as "Zenith" they were really Zenith design and they were made by Zenith and Holley.
