Default Positive experience with my tires

This past spring I purchased six new Lester white wall tires from Universal Tire in PA. After I mounted and cleaned off the protective blue film they looked super! But within three days they were turning a yellowish color. I called Universal and we discussed and if was determined that the cleaner I was using could have be the cause because it was known that in the past this cleaner would take the oil out of the rubber. So I changed the cleaner to an organic brand and same problem the darn tires turned yellow again. Now I was thinking that Universal would just blow me off and was ready to have a battle on my hands. Well guess what? When I called Universal Mike answered the phone and when I started to explain the problem his immediate reply was “They are under a 5 year warranty” next he offered to not only exchange but he would also remove the old tires and install the new at no charge if I brought to him. Well they are only a couple of hour drive away and yesterday may Wife and I did just that. When we arrived at 8:45AM Mike was in the office and he IMMEDIATELY took my tires and personally started the exchange, in less than 45 minutes all tires were mounted and back in the car for the trip home! What wonderful service I received and what a great experience, OK the tires were faulty “Things Happen” but this vendor Universal Tire really stands out to be of the highest standards, and Mike was exceptional! So if you are buying tires this is the place I would strongly recommend and the type of organization that is a valuable asset to our great hobby.

Hi Chuck,

Sounds like "all" salesmen from the 1950's.

Mike sounds Presidential; i.e., to borrow a term we all heard within the past few days.

Thanks.

They just said us any type of organic cleaner, I used something called "Simple Green" then used Brillo soap pads, both cleaned well, but again they still turned yellow in a couple of days? no matter what happens at least I know this vendor has my back, they do not make the tires but sure do step up to the plate, just am so darn impressed with them!

Good to see a Barner reporting a positive experience. Sounds like a great company to patronize! Wayne

Murphy's Oil soap with a soft brush. Turns 'em real white.

A slightly yellow white wall looks better on a vintage auto. IMHO.

Gene Clary gave me an OOOLD, 1/3 worn, LESTER 6:00 X 16 W.W, for a spare. It is SMOOTH, SUPPLE, PERFECT BEADS, NOT EVEN 1 CRACK & THE WHITE WAS SUPERB!--I scrubbed the white with LACQUER thinner & steel wool & BLACKED it out with QUALITY leather dye.
It has prominent raised letters, "NOT TO BE USED ON CARS MANUFACTURED AFTER 1948" I assume that was because of the advent of "SAFETY RIMS" that came about in 1949, when they added that little raised ridge inside the rim, to prevent the tire from FLOPPING off, during a flat.
Hope your NEW LESTERS do that well!!
My tire looks SO GOOD, that I "almost" was tempted to try mounting it TUBELESS. I have NO idea when it was made???--The tire was so nice & soft, that after spraying the bead & the rim with PAM, I mounted it with ONLY my BARE hands!!!

I've had Lester wide white wall on my Sport Coupe for about 10 years. They've always stayed white for a long time. They must be using a different formula in their new tires if they are not staying white. I need to replace these tires soon as the sidewalls are started to crack. My next set for the car will be Blackwalls.
