Vacuum operated window kit

On the site we can not talk about here there is a rare aftermarket vacuum operated window lift kit built by Trico for 40's and 50's cars. May be these were common in their day but it is the only one I have ever seen. Wonder if it would fit a 50 F1? Newton |

Re: Vacuum operated window kit
Ok, this is a vacuum cylinder device that uses a set of cables connected to the bottom of the windows. A electric door mounted switch activates a electric vacuum valves on the cylinder (rack?)reeling up the cables on a drum raising the windows. Two uprights with pullys support the cables. Fits 35 to 40 Ford, 39 to 40 Merc, 49 51 merc. but it looks like it could be adapted to any flat type door window to me. Newton |

Re: Vacuum operated window kit
A lot of high line cars from the late '40s/early '50s had those. I was only about knee high to a NEHI big orange drink then, but I recall that they were usually a PITA. They only worked as well as the integrity of the vacuum lines would allow. Vacuum leaks are the main reason the industry went to electrically operated accessories. |

Looks like another idea that looked good on paper but not so hot in the real world. Newton |
