Rear End gear changes

I have a 53 Meteor (Canadian Ford) with a stock rear end I think to be a 3.90. I have purchased a pair of gears that are 3.30.
I was told that to make them fit I would need the yoke from a 55, so I have one now.
I was then told that I need a different pot (one from a 55) so the gears will fit.

Anyone have any experience with this issue.
