1953 Flathead into 1957 custom 300
In my younger years I contemplated doing this engine transplant. I had a nice 1957 ford 300 and a rebuilt 53 flathead. Also had a pile of bell housings and transmissions although I think the standard 3 speed would have bolted up.
I wound up rebuilding the 292 and didn't do the mod. Has anyone done such a thing? I was sorry later that I didn't do it because I had all kinds of trouble with the 292 and had to do it all over again. The flathead would have probably kept on going. |

You'd be trading about 100 lbs less weight for about 100 less hp instead of using a 292 y-block.

I will try to get pictures of a friend of mine that is getting a Pinto ready for El Mirage and Bonneville and powered by a 300+inch flathead! He is already in the 2 club with a flathead powered lakester.

Re: 1953 Flathead into 1957 custom 300
When I was in Ohio, we were at a rest area and a guy come in with a 1940 Chevy non-hooded rod and get this--the car had a Ford 300 Six in it. Someone had made a split manifold and the duals sounded awesome. And when he left, the car flew out of there. All kinds of power. Didn't have my camera then or a cell phone to take pics, dang it!!!
