The lid in my early production sedan sits a little forward in the opening too. Maybe just leave it like that since it closes flat that way.

But, once you put the new gasket in the alignment will be all screwed up again. None of the gaskets fit perfect, and they seem to be too thick. Give it a test without gluing it in. You may need to sand some off the backside.

Thanks for the input and tips, spent some time under the dash and above the cowl. And it’s much better now!

Thanks for all your feedback and thoughts. Got some time in the garage this past weekend. And was able to massage the cowl vent into place and have it close properly with the gasket in place.

Many Thanks! Most posters would not tie the knot at the end of the thread! Kudos!

Interesting to watch all of this as I am experiencing about the same issues with 46 pickup. It came with a new Drake gasket but leaks when washing. I at this time have gasket in place, lid on top , small wooden blocks on each end of lid with a 2x2 wood bridge across the top and a tight post up to a cellar floor timber pressing ! Hoping to form a good bond and not leak. Thanks to all for the good ideas .
