Default Mounting large (6"x15") License Plates

New 1929 Ford Model A Tudor owner here. I wanted to use vintage plates for the state of Virginia on our car. In 1929 Virginia the license plate are 6"x15". I believe the front will be easy but any ideas about mounting on the rear of the car (9" center-to-center holes)?

I'm in Virginia too, been there done that :-) Take a piece of 3/16" x 3/4" steel the length of your plate. Center it over the plate holes and mark the location. Drill the holes. Then weld or bolt the new piece onto the existing bracket and bolt the plate on. Easy Peasy.

Thank you. I was thinking along the same lines. Any issues with using aluminum vice steel?

Kinda hard to weld aluminum to steel 😉 But bolting would work fine. What is your plate's bolt hole spacing?

It's 9" center-to-center. I was planning on bolting.

If you want to move your front plate to the bumper, this 1932 Ford bracket works perfectly. It is 11" wide, so your plate will bolt on.

I appreciate that. Probably a great idea for the front. The back is the challenge as the car has a large trunk in the back (see attached). My wife and I are still waiting on delivery of the car, hopefully in the next couple of weeks.

I didn't have any problem mounting my Virginia,1931 plate on my pickup. I used the stock bracket and stainless steel nuts and bolts. I attached them with black faucet washers to protect the paint and added zip ties as extra protection, but not needed.

In NC we are required to have one plate and mine is mounted in the front of my car with an expandable license plate holder. I don't remember where I got it but I have had it for 20 or 30 years if not longer. In NC if you have an antique plate on your car it can be mounted in front or back as a regular plate and current tags has to be visible if carried inside the car. I keep my antique plate on the front and current plate with tags on the back.

My wife came up with the solution attaching an aluminum bar to extend the width and attaching to the bracket that was suggested above. This allow attaching the front plate to the bumper vice the light bar. Thank you for the help.
