Default 1939 Convertible Sedan Top

We have 39 convertible sedan that I'd like to drive with the top down. We don't have a boot for it so I don't know if this would be bad for the top. There aren't any hold down straps on the top either.

Never had a 39 but had a few early 60s convertibles not one ever had a boot. I just put the top down and drove it just lays there. Never try and put the top up or down while driving down the road.

I have had other convertibles as well. The top goes down into a well. On the 39 it's so big it actually hangs off the back of the body by maybe a foot.

The convertible sedan top is a large one. Boots help to protect a top for extended periods with the top down. It keeps things from moving around a little better and pads the fabric a bit. Loose fabric can flutter in the wind and that's destructive to any type of canvas. If the top has the glass backlite then it will need some protection. The car should be stored with the top up just to maintain it's shape and flexibility. A boot just acts like a cover for a standard convertible type car but for a phaeton or convertible sedan where the top hangs off the back of the car, it definitely helps to secure and protect it it top down position. A boot shouldn't be all that expensive to have made. The top down can be used as a pattern but someone out there may have a dimensional drawing of one.

It would be nice to have a top boot. I sure don't want the material to beat itself to pieces in the wind.
