Did you adjust your parking brake after you installed new brakes?

Be sure to read every word included here about Lockheed brakes:

Long shoe and larger dia. of wheel cylinder to the front of each wheel.
Check to make sure top of each shoe is fitted properly in the slotted piston of the wheel cylinder and that your wheel cylinder bolts are tight. Same with backing plate bolts.

Are the little brass cam washers properly installed in the bottom of each shoe adjuster.
I know it seems odd to ask these questions but, you never know. Go back and double check everything. You will prevail.
The driver side rear should look like this.

The fact that you have to back up to unlock it makes me think the problem is in the parking brake, possibly the equalizer bar between the shoes. Make sure all that stuff is loose and not binding on the shoes. Maybe the metal on the new shoes is too thick and the shoes expand outward but then get hung up on the equalizer bar and won't return by itself. Reversing might push that shoe back in on the equalizer bar and lets the shoe return. Just for fun when it locks up set the parking brake and release it and see if that unsticks it, it might also make it worse.

Did you go through the adjustment procedure to center the shoes in the drum with the two bottom adjusters? are the top and bottom of each shoe slightly tapered. Can you detect any wear on the shoes especially the two long sides. Do make sure all the hardware is properly installed and the springs do not touch other parts.

Thank you for the advice
Got it back together this morning
Just need to let it down and take for a ride and see what happens
Thought about the e brake and will try that if it still acts up
Did not find anything that jumped right out at me other the front shoe rubbing on the inside of the drum
I will see what happens

I was thinking about your problem some more. If it does it again pull the drum and have someone step on the brakes just a little so they don't blow out the wheel cylinder while you watch and see if its hanging up and not retuning back in.

did you replace the springs often forgotten but they do wear [loose tension] another thing is how well did you clean the drum they are porous in the surface and depending what
preservative was used on them [got some ex army drums once literally had to boil them in water to get the wax out of them ] also drum finish can have a bearing on this as they will tend to suction to the drum at the rivets [ not common but has happened more common with clutches ]
