Default First patch with the English Wheel

Thought I would share a little weekend help project on my buddies 54 Jubilee. I made my first patch piece on my English Wheel. Compound curved piece, which I am super proud of, being my very very first time ever using a English Wheel.

Good looking patch! You can do some amazing things with an English wheel. I have never had the opportunity to use one of those. I’m still using a sand bag and a hammer. When you get to making fenders let me know, I need a left rear for my 35.

I think I would need to have a couple of sets of dies made for a bead roller to make the "bead" of the fender. I am looking at that as well as I have a 33 Fender that needs a small area of the bead repaired!!!!

I say, that's my goal, BUT not sure I have enough "projects" that will allow me to do so....ALSO, I think that I would require a better quality wheel. The one I bought was a Harbor Freight wheel......IT was such good buy I couldn't pass it up!!! SO I figured I'd through the buck and a half at it (With all the different anvils) and give it a whirl.

Good job, that is a great looking patch. What thickness of metal did you use for the patch? I have a buddy who lives pretty close to me that has a wheel, but I haven't tried to use it yet.

18 ga. .050. Eastwood has a pretty decent video to help get started on youtube. I have also watched several videos of Jesse James, he always shares good nuggets of info when he is using a Wheel. I will also say....I did use a hammer and rags to help get shape to it as well as duck bill pliers and regular pliers and then smoothed it out with the wheel as well SO a combination of all......primarily the wheel on about 85% of it!!!!

You managed to not loose any fingers nor pinched ones.
That is a great start. That is how we learn.

Rock,
Great work on the patch! I love my jubilee! Every Ford guy that was close to farming should have one!
Regards,
Chris

Wish my 53 Golden Jubilee looked that good. Bought new by my dad. at 77 it will probably never get restored.

Great job. I've always wanted to try my hand on an English wheel, but never got a round Tuit. A little late to try it at my age I reckon.

Lot's of great Youtube video's on the english wheel and the bead roller. I watch them at night rather than the crap on regular TV. Lasse, Covell, Schein, etc. There are thousands of hours of great video'son there.
I bought the set of '34 Ford body dies from Lasse and they work great. Huge learning curve though.

Practice makes perfect. Had a compound curved sheet metal piece I needed. Talking to a very good metal worker about it, he took a piece of straight sheet and in 10 minutes while talking to me about it and demonstrating "this is all you have to do". Boom it was done. Would have taken me 10 days and 10 tries. The right tools and knowing how they work are important.

Nice work!
