Default 1950 mercury badging and plate code

Hey guys, so I have a Monterey but have been told it may not be a real one. When I bought it the title said Monterey and has all the badging, vinyl top, accessory wheel that match a Monterey. My question is what is the code on the plate tag that says it’s a Monterey and where can I find where the exact location of the badging is supposed to be?

Thanks

Does it have a cowl code stamped into the upper firewall area like Ford does? The cowl code contains a wealth of information.

Does it also have chrome plated garnish moldings?

Looks like they painted over it when they restored the car.

Yes, I looked at all the photos and other than showing a definitive model code all seems to show a Monterey but NOT the subject car in question.
Yes I used a door photo to indicate what the 'garnish' moldings are and that they should be chrome in answer to the OP's question.

So the car in question is not a 1950 Mercury Monterey and the photos I sent are not a 1950 Mercury Monterey either

Never said either car was not a Monterey but that the photos you posted are not the subject car belonging to the OP.
Your photos appear to be a Monterey.

Without any photos of the subject (OP's) there is no way to say it is or it is not.

I think the photos were to show the OP what a 50 Monterey looks like, some clues to help ID his car.

The 1950 Mercury cars started out with the patent /ID plate on the right side of the cowl as shown and the body plate in the same location on the left side. The body plates were combined with the patent plates one above the other on the later 1950 Lincolns & Mercury cars. The body plate is what you need to find.

The 6-passenger coupe had three trim levels after the Monterey came out. The lowest trim level was the 72A and it was a basic model with fixed rear quarter windows. The 72B had rear quarter windows that hinge out for venting as well as a few other nicer trim applications. The 72C was the Monterey. It had all the characteristics of the 72B but the extra trim package such as the vinyl top, extra chrome trim, and the Monterey badges and markings. The wing on the hood ornament was gold instead of chrome. Those interior window garnish moldings were chrome as seen in the photos. The new wheel covers for 1951 had the polished brass Mercury head as standard on the wheel centers. These were optional over chrome on the lesser trim models. Leather seat coverings were also standard for Montereys but there were options on that and could have faux leather combined with real leather as well as all leather options. They had their own distinct color options from the lesser trim models. Some accessories were still optional even on the higher end types.

These were in unison with the Ford Crestliner, the Lincoln Lido, and the top of the line Lincoln Capri models.

The chrome garnish moldings were part of the Monterey package.
Does your hood ornament have gold wings? (that was part of the package also)
