Re: hood latch springs
Do you mean the the hood hinge springs, or the spring for the hood latch at the front of the hood? Hood hinge springs may be available from places like Mac's-er-Eckler's, Concours Parts & Accessories, Larry's T-bird & Mustiang, The Ford Parts Store (Toby/Sandy Gorny) and several others that specialize in mid-'50s Fords/T-birds, but the hood latch may be a used-only item unless you're resourceful and know how to get around a hardware store.

Re: hood latch springs
Somewhere back around 1997, I dismantled my '55 Courier wagon and took it down to a metal cleaning establishment in pieces. They used a giant chemical dunk-tank which strips all old paint and rust off of metal.
I had my hood hinges with everything else, but the guy there told me that the chemical would ruin the springs (make them brittle and cause them to crack). I held them back and stripped them myself with paint remover. The same principal applies to anything made of spring-steel (such as rear leaf springs). An alternative to cleaning them would have been sandblasting or plastic-bead blasting. I cannot imagine anything else that would break those hood hinge coil springs. |

Re: hood latch springs
Thanks for your thoughts but I am looking for the hood "Latch" springs. Been thru all the hardware stores to no avail. At this point I hope someone has a spare latch. I may have to try a wrecking yard out in the Az. desert.

Re: hood latch springs
Just so anyone that comes across this post during a SEARCH -
Return Springs were available for 53/54 and 56 up. The 1955 HOOD LATCH was unique as it was an assembly and was not able to be broken down to service the spring (Basic PN 16925). |

Re: hood latch springs
Thanks for the pic Kultulz. That is what I have found also. My latch has been modified by previous owner. They took the long peened rivets out and replaced with bolts. I will probably try to buy a complete working latch. infact, there is one on ebay but they want $200 bucks for it. Seems more than a bit high.

Re: hood latch springs
you might try desert valley auto parts outside of Phoenix Az., if you don't mind a used part. https://www.dvap.com/
