plunger horn/ stuck
any help appreciated...
I have an EA plunger horn with the push rod stuck in the down position. If I smack the push rod it makes the squawk sound, but no motion up or down. How do I free this up? The horn is in nice shape, not rusted. thank you for your suggestions, Doug |

Re: plunger horn/ stuck
As a child, I had one to play with. It would not sound properly. Some skipping and sometimes not returning up. I simply removed all the hardware soaked the internals with 3 in one oil, figured out how to adjust the lock nut on the diaphram. Found that, yes, the return spring is not very beefy, but once all was oiled up it was adequate.
Had years of fun with it 'til my future brother in law totaled the car it was in. Don't hesitate strip it down oil it up, have fun.

Re: plunger horn/ stuck
Sometimes they need a bit of oil like A bones posted. Sometimes the ribbon spring is just worn down. Look inside and see what you can fix.
On one, the ribbon spring inside the canister was just a bit weak, so added an 'external' coil spring under the knob. Just laced the coil spring around the knob shaft that that allowed the spring to re-set again. |
