Front window on 29 Tudor - how to take out
I will have to take out the front window, as the frame is rusted. I am a little insecure how to.... ( I tried "search" but didnt find) Opening front window to the max, shows 6 screws in the top ... they might hold the hinge, but once i unscrew they loosen (some hidden nuts ?), but wont come out ... Please help
Thanks a lot |

Re: Front window on 29 Tudor - how to take out
Or is there a chance to take the frame of the front window apart without taking the top part of the frame away from the car? Thank you

There should be 3 screws on the very top of the door frame holding a metal strip. Remove the strip, remove the door panel, disconnect the window channel from the regulator then you can pull the window glass out from the top.

Sorry about the miss understanding. You’ll probably have to remove the
Sun visor and disconnect the windshield swing arms. Raise the windshield to about a 45 degree angle then it should slide out to the side. It’s probably a 2 person job, it’s fairly heavy and a little awkward to handle. Good luck. |

Keep in mind, if the frame is rusty, the hinge probably has rust also. It may take a little penetrating oil and a fair amount of wiggling it before the hinge will slide out.

Re: Front window on 29 Tudor - how to take out
Mine I just took out about five screws on the top piano hinge and it just fell out, as it's just screwed to the wood above it. And if that don't work your going to have to take that wood out of the car.
As the screws and wood might be rotted away, and the front piece that you see under the sun visor is nailed on as mine was anyway. Then you should be able to work on the Sun visor as that is all nailed on the top and I think one or two screws on each side. Then you should be able to take the visor off and the wood piece should come out also, but be careful as the window might still be attached so you might want to have a few people around to help. And if the window frame is not fixable I know where you can get another original one Bert's in Denver, 800-321-1931 as for Steve, Good Luck reggiedog |

Re: Front window on 29 Tudor - how to take out
Reggie, are you talking about t Tudor or something else? The hinge on a Tudor is part of the metal header and doesn't involve any wood to get the windshield frame out. Don't get me wrong, there is a wooden header in the Tudor but mostly steel.

Re: Front window on 29 Tudor - how to take out
The windshield upper hinge is not screwed into the wood header. It is attached to the steel header by six screws, lock washers, and nuts. You will need to remove the upholstered header cover to gain access to the nuts. You should have someone assist you in holding the windshield in place as you remove the screws. As mentioned above, you may want to remove the visor as well to give yourself a little more space to work with. When you go to reinstall the windshield, use only some friction tape between the upper hinge and header. The rubber gasket sold by many suppliers is not correct for your car.

Re: Front window on 29 Tudor - how to take out
I just recently taken out the windshield on a Late 31 Tudor and a few other cars so I know how to take them out, and yes there are bolts and nuts that hold the windshield to the brace but after.
That there's like 6 screws that are screwed up into that wood header piece, and those have to take those out also, then there shouldn't be anything holding the window in there but you also have to take the sun visor off. And the metal header piece that's nailed in there as so is the visor just to get to everything that you need to get to. best of luck Reggiedog |

I think you're confusing a 28/29 with a 39/31. The windshields mount differently on them.
