JM 35 Sedan - Was your BB truck a very late one in '32? What range of serial # is it? I've heard they only made the 25 louver hood for a couple weeks in November of '32.
My 1/2 ton pickup has one, and it is an AB 5 million # instead of B or 18 prefix. It's definately a '32 - 106" wheel base, gas tank under the seat, removable firewall, etc. But it is titled and licensed as a 1933 because it was first sold in November of '33! Another quirk is the rear frame was clad on the outside from ahead of the kickup back past the shock area. I've never seen another one like it.
Mainly curious about the vin #. Thanks, theBoB

This is my '32. I'm 30 years old at the moment and my father, Richard, gave it to me 28 years ago. Evidently I was scared of it because the 4cyl engine vibrated and I didn't like that. To help warm me up to the truck my Dad told me it was mine and I never had another problem with it, lol.

My Dad purchased it in 1981 from an ad in the paper. A man purchased Jim Lattin's Hi-Grade Plating shop in Pomona, Ca and this truck was part of the deal. The new owner had no use for it, so he put it up for sale. Mechanically, the poor thing was worn out so in the early '80s my Dad went through it and rebuild the front suspension, replaced the rear axle with a good used 3.78 unit and had his good friend Chris Wickersham rebuilt the 4cyl engine and B trans. He also added 16" Kelseys and 600-16 Firestones.

The truck remained in this state until 1995. I had turned 15 and before I got my license and could drive it I wanted to make some basic changes. My Dad and I installed a new dropped axle, reverse eye spring, de-arched rear spring, 3.54 rear axle, 46-48 hydraulic brakes / drums and he came up with what would be the prototype for our "World Famous" (haha) '32 bolt-on master cylinder kit. I also replaced the 600-16's with new Firestone 4.50-16 front and 700-16 rear tires.

Today the truck remains nearly identicle to it's '95 re-do except that I have replaced the front tires with 600-16s and added a Pete Eastwood dropped headlight bar. The external cosmetics remain the same as when it was purchased in '81. I have been mentally toying with the idea of putting the suspension back to original and putting the stock 18" wheels back on. Since I have my T-V8 hotrod now I no longer feel the need to modify this one and am starting to feel that it deserves to be put back to original.

This is a very early '32 with a January production and has features that pre-dates V8 production, such as the k-member does not have holes to mount the V8 stabilizer rods. The flywheel housing number also still matches the frame.

Thanks Straightpipes. I had not thought about a Mitchell overdrive for this truck. Will keep that idea in mind. JM

theBoB, I'll have to check serial numbers to answer your question. If I can find something, I will edit this post and let you know. I bought this truck about six years ago thinking I would just resell it and make a few bucks to help fund my other projects. No one would pay what I was asking so I decided to just store it away as a future project. The 25 louver hood is worth a good chunk of the $$'s I paid for the complete truck. JM

Neal, I had asked you this same question on the old Fordbarn but never got a response. I am wondering who's heads you are using on that engine? Could you give me some details. Thank you! JM

The were my dad's heads...but he gave them to me, so I guess they are mine.

I can't give out all of my speed secrets...but I will say the heads are sort of a joint project between Henry Ford and myself...

Yeah Neal, 10-4 on not giving up too many of your secrets :-) They look something like ORD (Pre-WWII) 24-stud cylinder heads with the ORD removed on the front surface and I have also seen a set of heads that looked something like those on a Flathead powered English Pilot. In any case, I like them. They are different and that's cool. JM

Say NEALINCA ... I really like your RPU. I can't be the only one wondering this. How do you keep it from rusting?? Clear coat, WD-40, sacrificial anode??

WOW!!!!

What a great looking truck. I wouldn't expect to see a nice original '33 still out there that is for sale. Most of the ones that come up for sale look like they have been thru the wars. Almost all of the good ones are in the hands of guys who will not part with them.

Great Find!!!!

Chris

Thanks for starting this thread. I think Trucks have been Short Changed for years. The passanger cars get all fixed up with shiny paint and chrome but trucks are a little more humble.

Every Truck was originally bought for a purpose such as working on the farm or hauling freight. Every one has a story to tell. All are individual in their own way.

Cars may be Cool but Trucks are WAY MORE INTERESTING!!!!

Chris.
