1932 Wiring - Original??
I'm guessing this wiring was replaced at some point in time but before I pull it out and replace with new, could anyone tell me if this is actually originally the wiring that would have come on the car? In the name of safety I will likely still replace it all as some has deteriorated quite a bit...but I'd like to save it if it is indeed from 1932. I know there are some "wrong" parts on the car. I believe it was fixed up to this state in the 50's.
One of my helpers is preparing the new wiring in the mean time while the other is just ready to GO!. Zach

Re: 1932 Wiring - Original??
I think you already know BUT in picture 4 the more "modern" coil mounted in the inside of the firewall is "DEFINITELY NOT" original OR original wiring!!!!!

Re: 1932 Wiring - Original??
Hey Zac . my guess is that due to the brighter yellow color on some of the wires, I think this is probably a replacement at some point. My 32 Cabriolet had original wiring and the colors were nowhere near as bright as some on yours. Also, my Cabriolet had been stored inside since 59, so I'm sure it was original. Like you, I replaced it all for safety and reliability. I also used the original "bullet" type connectors and put conductive grease in all of them when I put them together. I'm sure you know that there are at least two different front wiring harnesses - DavidG would know more.

Re: 1932 Wiring - Original??
Actually, the Model B (4 cyl.) coil was mounted on the inside of firewall. It appears to be a 4 cylinder.

Re: 1932 Wiring - Original??
Thank you, guys. Yes this is a 4 cylinder Model-B.
That was my thinking too Dale, but just figured I'd ask as I've not had experience with a 32 that wasn't just a pile of mismatched pieces before. This appears to have not actually even been totally apart or anything and I don't believe most of the mechanicals were ever messed with. Just a repaint, freshen the engine and upholstery at some point likely more recently then the rest. Thanks!

Re: 1932 Wiring - Original??
I think that some of the wiring is the original, but it has been modified to such an extent that it is likely beyond saving. (I discount some of the apparent freshness of the colors due to the camera flash.)

Re: 1932 Wiring - Original??
I am so focused on our 32 with a V8 that the fact of one being a 4cyl and not having been exposed to one, "obviously" never crossed my "ignorant" mind!!! Blushing with stupidity and mouth full of crow. Sorry guys, once again Dad was right.....Start brain, let warm up to smooth idle....Then engage mouth!!

Re: 1932 Wiring - Original??
All I can add is that my '51 has all of it's original wiring (except for the headight crossover which I replaced) and has led a very pampered life. That being said, the colors on your wiring look better than mine.

Twins I presume. Great looking boys, and you're starting them out right.

Yep, 9 month old boy and girl. Henry and Alice. I'm guessing you can figure out where the name Henry came from...

I think Henry needs a cushion to sit on, he will never see out the windscreen.

Re: 1932 Wiring - Original??
Alice was my great grandmother's name. Edsel was a possibility but I couldn't give a kid a name that would end up associated with the god awful cars made later in time. We didn't know if we were having 2 boys, 2 girls, or one of each so we needed to have quite a few options ready.
It's tough to name kids, we knew we wanted old fashion names that would stand the test of time as they age.

"Old fashioned" names are real popular where I am, especially for girls. I'll bet I know of a dozen young "Hannah"'s and "Emma"'s

Spend as much time with them as you can. They do grow up fast. You are also involved in a great family hobby.
