Re: $40,000 Deluxe Roadster
It's too bad so many try to sell a car and don't show the undercarriage and engine compartment.
Especially on high dollar cars they should show better pictures of all parts of the car. Ads like this makes me think they mainly care only about new shiny paint, and not so much the mechanicals. |

Re: $40,000 Deluxe Roadster
Yeah look at the background!!!
But, try to restore one for much under that these days. It would depend on overall condition. Not to start in on it but.......the shadowing makes the driver door look like a bad fit or bad seam match up (I know roadster doors are not flush doors but overlap). Its not THAT ridiculous IMHO |

Re: $40,000 Deluxe Roadster
Priced too high, huh? Look at it differently; if it was done in a restoration shop, or maybe just a body shop and they only billed $40/hour for time and materials that's a 1000 hour restoration, 125 eight hour days. How many hours go into the typical Model A resto job?
Not everyone restores at home, and more importantly not everyone understands the collector car market.

Re: $40,000 Deluxe Roadster
The Hamptons owner probably doesn't know how to open the hood to expose the engine or soil his knickers to take pictures of the undercarriage 😜

Yes but he knows how to earn big bucks and invest wisely. Don't knock it unless you have tried it! Likely his well paid chauffeur took the pictures. Wayne

Re: $40,000 Deluxe Roadster
Yes a lot of money but as oldbluoval said, looks what it takes to restore a Roadster.
A good shop would charge in the neighborhood of $65-$80,000 for a ground up restoration, depending on condition of sheetmetal, parts, etc. obvious stuff. Looking at it that way $40K may not be too out of line. We all like to buy on the cheap but when it comes to selling, we all like to sell at a high price. You'll see really nice '30-'31 Dlx. Roadsters advertised in the mid to upper twenties by private owner, I'm guessing in reality driver #3 maybe #-2 condition cars. Often at auctions like Mecum they will bring upper thirties to near forty. Old Cars Weekly Price Guide values #1 condition Roadsters in these two years at $36,000. |

Re: $40,000 Deluxe Roadster
Talk about yellowed whitewalls!
I guess he wanted them to match the wheels. What I find interesting is he probably has more than that into it, if he paid someone to restore it for him, then he only drives it 100 miles and sells it. |

Re: $40,000 Deluxe Roadster
It would be nice to see the Rt side view for a $40,000 car. Also correct top material. Jim

Re: $40,000 Deluxe Roadster
Asking prices can be whatever the seller wants. Most of us know it is not difficult to spend a lot more than what this seller is asking to get a top quality restoration done.
Buyers/collectors who can afford it, recognize the high cost they may have to incur to get the car they want built to the quality they want. Such buyers may want to look at this car and would not be put off by the asking price if they see the quality in the build and it is the car they want. If the car and its quality are what a buyer wants, the price will not be too much. |
