Oil Galley
I have a freind who is doing some work on his valves. We have noticed that when he opens up his galley by removing the valve conver there is practically no oil left in the galley even after 12 hours of sitting. The rear main has some oil over the tube governed by the height of the oil return pipe, but the front main and the centre main are virtually dry.
Any time i have opeened up me valve cover after 12 hours or so the galley has a lot of oil in it especially at the front and centre mains. It makes a mess. It seems to me that to lose that much oil in a relatively short period of time that the front and centre mains must be loose - or the clearance between the distributor drive hardware and the block is too loose - orsomething else. Thoughts please. Do you think this loss of oil is normal in that period of time? |

Re: Oil Galley
Might be time to drop the pan and check/clean it. Also the screen for the oil pump. Or the oil pump is worn out.

Re: Oil Galley
It could be that the oil wells have been cut the entire width of the bearing allowing the oil to drain fast
The oil tubes to the bearing could have a hole The bearing clearance could be too much Since the cover is off a oil can could be used to squirt oil down the tubes |

Re: Oil Galley
I don't know what the normail drain time would be for the three chambers, but I would expect the front bearing to wear the least, so it should hold the oil the longest. I'd stick a pipe cleaner down the third tube and feel for the wire to touch the crank journal to make sure it's clear.
12 hours to drain sounds OK to me. If the engine runs OK and doesn't have any noise from the mains, I guess I'd not worry about it. On the other hand, you can always drop the pan and check the mains for clearance and condition. |

Re: Oil Galley
If the bearing clearance is on the loose side the oil will drain faster.
