Kelsey Hayes Wheels on Model A
I picked up four Kelsey Hayes wheels a while back and let them go with some swap and work. Yesterday I got them back and determined that they shall stay here til the end. Absolutely straight and vey smooth. Put them on my Coupe to check all that out for myself and found they will all four go on the front straight away. They miss going on the rear on the tiniest of margins and I am a bit stumped why. I pulled a rear wheel on another 30 coupe and same thing, just not going on. Looks like they should if I drilled the holes in the K/H just a tad larger, but I really don't want to take a change on that. One of the cars I tried them on has cast drums and the other has sleel. Both seem to reject going into place by the same ammount. Any ideas? All four slip right onto the fronts and bolt up nicely to the drums. All of the four miss going onto the rear of either car by the same ammount, it appears to me. It's like the studs in the rear are a tiny bit cocked as they hold the hub and drum together. I have had K/H on a 29 truck before, but it had 39/41 brake drums. Sure need some help.
Thanks in advance. Ace Mechanic, not! |

Re: Kelsey Hayes Wheels on Model A
I think there might be spacers, or a spacer ring required. I have the larger backing plates and drums on the huckster with ford 16 inch wires.
The rear hubs must have a different OD. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=177150 This might help. Last edited by Brentwood Bob; 01-02-2022 at 01:22 AM. |
