8BA/ SBC distributors
I'm shipping the last of the previous batch of the converted sbc / 8BA
distributors. My customers for these gems and I thank everybody that stepped up and sent Load a Matic distributors so I could salvage the gears and all who sent core sbc distributors. The next batch will be started sometime in June. Top shelf vendors advise me no new gears until MAYBE July. I'll pay $10 plus shipping for 8BA distributors with good gears....I'll salvage the gears.... for economy sake I'd prefer 3 or 4 per box to keep shipping costs under control. I'm once again obviously out of gears. This situation will not effect my latest pricing $307 w/o the vac and $337 w/ the vac can. After talking to engine guys I'm considering supplying these dists with the max adv set at 20* eliminating the adjustable max adv. I value any and all input. Charlie ny |

Re: 8BA/ SBC distributors
I've spent a lot of time tuning flatheads, and 20 degs max mechanical advance is a good place to stop. During my racing years I found that the best "Track" preformance was at 17/18 degs fixed advance. we started the engine with the ignition OFF spun it up on 12 volts and turned t on. This prevented starter jam ups. However when running the engine on a chassis dyno, max power usually came in at a round 24/6 degs adv. Unfortunately the engine didn't preform very well on the track where you needed acceleration. Then there's economy and a lean mixture need more advance , so 28/30 comes to mind. You can actually get these engines to run on a 15 + AF ratio.. But this takes a putzer

Swap meets are starting again. One this Saturday, another later this month, and one in mid June. I'll see if any turn up.

I bought a few Mallory distributors this year for 20$ But none of them had the tach drive I wanted for this conversion. I was told that I got a deal |

Thank you Jack...
I'm loathe to pass something like this gear fubar onto customers. Charlie ny |

Re: 8BA/ SBC distributors
I'm really into "flattop" Mallory distributors. I would not take a Mallory that did not have points, condenser, rotor, or cap. for free.
Unless you have those parts, the Mallory's are worth scrap. |

Re: 8BA/ SBC distributors
Hey there. I just installed the one I purchased from you. Incorrectly thanked Bubba. Followed your instructions and it cranked right up and ran great. Timing even showed good and it sounds more throaty if you will. I have a 6volt pos ground and had tried a petronix in my old distributor. The one you built for me is fantastic.
If you want mt old gear I can cut it off the shaft and send it to you. I only have the one but its trash to me. Thanks again |
