Default U-Joint Housing early Ford V-8

Did all 32, 33, and 34 Fords utilize the same 32-48 style 3-piece clamshell U-Joint covers? Or was there an alternative single-piece design off the assembly line that eventually phased out?

The 32's used a one-piece design, while the later cars used a two-piece design. I believe my 34's had the two-piece clamshell . . . but I can't tell you exactly when the change was made.

So with the one-piece design, what’s the proven method of adding a reliable seal to the rear of the housing?

Not a seal.
Simply a wiper.

Originally made of cork, but a lot easier to install the felt variety offered by thirdgenauto.com.

There is another variation of one piece clamshell.
Pictured one has grease fitting mid point.

I have some like that but also some with grease fitting at 5 oclock.
The level of fluid with factory 4oz spec is 5 oclock

Always thought the lower fitting was earlier .
DavidG would be good to listen to on stuff like this
