Rebuilding Rear Axle
I have just removed and pressed in the double race for the pinion with Snyder's
A-4210-X Tool. I know it is pricey but this is one task that I was very worried about. It did a beautiful job. Made me feel like a professional mechanic! I would highly recommend it if you can't borrow one. This tool removes and installs pinion bearings and races. Question: When I removed the drive shaft and pinion bearings I was surprised to find the the forward bearing was very dry. It definitely was not wet from rear axle oil. Should I pack this bearing with wheel bearing grease and maybe put rear axle oil on top of everything before I bolt on the housings? It is hard to visualize how the rear axle oil makes it over the double race to lubricate the front bearing. This is a great opportunity to lubricate these parts now. Please comment, Ed |

Re: Rebuilding Rear Axle
Do not pack the bearings with grease... Just pour gear oil all over the bearings prior to installation.

Re: Rebuilding Rear Axle
I wonder if the oil level was low, so it didn’t get hit with oil splashing ect?
