Default Copper head gaskets and aluminum heads

Is there truth in what people say about copper head gaskets, that they should not be used with aluminum heads? Anyone know the real facts on this?

I asked this question some time ago. Composite gaskets for al. Copper for cast steel. The copper reacts with the aluminium.

If you use a good corrosion inhibitor and maintain it, you will not have a problem.

Edelbrock recommends copper head gaskets for their aluminum heads.

Mine were eaten really bad in about a year with the copper gaskets. It did clean all the rust out of the block!! I had anti freeze in the engine.

I'm just curious as to why you wouldn't just use a composite gasket? They work well, don't they? I guess if you have the copper set already...

I am hearing all different things. People talking about electrolysis and coppers reaction to the aluminum causing erosion.

Google "aluminum and copper reaction" this will just go over the reaction (if any) of the two metals not just about gaskets, then make the decision for yourself.

Thanks tinker. Did just that and very informative articles about copper and aluminum . Copper will sacrifice aluminum all the time to a galvanic response.
