v8 60

hi, just committed to getting a v8 60 from a friend of a friend situation. the current owners till me there is a number on the bellhousing that reads j8E.
there are probably other numbers and ways to identify this motor. without having the motor yet or knowing what to look for how do i tell the differences between them?

Don’t believe numbers mean much. 3 main differences. Tin sides are early 37 only. 1940 have larger rod & main journals with longer snout crankshaft. In between are all the same.

I have been advertising V8 60 parts for sale on the swap meet page. I sold some. I have a timing gear and crank gear, tansmission cluster gear, some valves, guides and springs left. All NOS parts.
