Default 46 ford hood alignment

Rear portion of hood not flush with cowl. Up about an inch, easily pushes down by hand though. Which adjustment do I use to bring it down? Under dash cowl area bolt? Tried this several times, not much luck
Thanks

There is an article about adjusting the hood on Mark's 1941-1948 Ford parts web site.

You might want to ask a friend for help, working both sides of the car can be a real pain. Good luck.

remember, as the hood hinges are adjusted up, the hood moves down.

I finally just took off the hood hinge springs and it made all the difference. So I just carry a hood prop. I know that it's cheating, but the hood now fits. Just a thought.

The geometry of the hood hinges pulls the rear edge of the hood to the cowl just as the hood fully closes. There was an article in the May/June 2009 Ford Times covering this topic of "aligning the 1941/1948 Hood". It says "lowering the hood hinges where they bolt to the firewall causes the rear of the hood to go up" after the hood to latch is connecting. It is an excellent article regarding one of the most frustrating jobs. It is two pages with pictures. Send me a gmail ([email protected]) with your address if you want a copy.

The best article regarding adjusting the 1941/1948 Hood was published in the May/June issue of the V8 TIMES, 2009. It is two pages with pictures. It says that the bolts holding the hinges to the firewall must be loosened and the hinges lowered. Lowering the hinges causes the rear of the hood to go up. What it truly does is to allow the front of the hood to latch before the rear of the hood is down. If you want a copy of this article, send your name and address to [email protected]

On our '41 had sort of same problem. Installed NOS hinges, springs but my hood sides spread apart at the cowl but good at top of cowl. After fighting it forever I removed the springs and bingo! fit perfectly everywhere. Installed a fold down hood prop similar to modern cars.

The original article was by Mark Kicsak of Binghampton, NY in 2009. In any case, it is a very good, complete piece. Thanks for the info.
