Default 46 speedometer

46 truck speedo not working. New cable. Orig was twisted. New one ran speedo as I held cordless drill on tranny end and speedo went all through the 0 to 40. ONCE. Now twisted off at tranny end again
Thoughts?

Did you replace the whole cable, or just the inner? If the inner only, did you have any difficulty getting getting it in? Did you lube it? You may have to remove the speedo and test it directly. When I tested mine out of the dash, I squared off the end of a small wood dowel, and mounted it in a variable speed drill to run the speedo. Mu theory was, if the speedo jammed, the wood dowel would fail/shear, and prevent any damage if the speedo jammed.
