Default 1950 Ford F1 bed questions

I've had a chance to look at the box on my Canadian 1950 F1 (F-47) and I've noticed quite a few differences to its US counterpart.

1. My box uses a total of 9 bed boards and 8 bed strips. The middle board is 5 3/4" wide, and the other eight side boards are 4 3/4 wide. Has anyone seen other years that use this configuration? All the bed kits I see use 8 boards the same size and 7 strips.

2. My bed also has the flat back plate, which looking at the catalogs was the way it looked in 1952 and up in the USA.

3. My tailgate uses Ford block lettering, not the script lettering. I think block lettering started in 1952 in the USA.

Although there is no way to be absolutely certain, this bed looked original to the truck. there was no indication it had been replaced that I could see.

Also does anyone know what the original type of wood they used was?

Thanx,

Kirk

Yes; My '48 m47 had some special items... biggest surprise was the fender bolts in the bed sides were a fine SAE not the US style USS [course]. Wood under steel floor appeared to be red oak, but untreated or preserved. Glass bugs were Canadian M and dated 11-47, and original engine was a 59ab made in Canada of course. Two piece oil pan, and eng and trans were light gray. 64K original BC Provincial Gov. trk it was. Newc

I have a 1952 F-1, built in Canada. The correct original tailgate has the BLOCK lettering on Canadian trucks, not the script lettering. BG

1950 was a transition year in the US. The Ford F1 had 2 beds that year. The early 1950's had the older style beds with the round bottom stake pockets and sculpted bedsides. The later 1950s had the plain sided beds with square stake pockets. This was the same bed until 1979.
1953 was the first year that US Fords had block letter tailgates.
