Stuck Distributor Rotor
Hi there. I’m new to owning a Model A and have a 31 Tudor. Been running good but decided today to set the timing for the first time. Problem I ran into though is that I can’t get the rotor out. Everything I read or videos I watch have everyone just pulling it out. Not happening on mine. So am I missing something about taking the rotor off to do the timing?

Re: Stuck Distributor Rotor
Should come out - no mechanical fastener holding it.

Stuck Distributor Rotor
Here is a picture. It’s a friction fit for the rotor. If you remove the part of the distributor body that has the spark plug electrodes on it (as removed in the picture), the rotor may be easier to remove. (The distributor body is a friction fit too. Once you release the two spring clips that hold on the distributor cap, the distributor body should lift straight up. You may need to wiggle it a bit to get it free.)

Re: Stuck Distributor Rotor
I have some rotors that fit very tight on the rotor and cannot be easily removed. Pry the rotor up and break it if necessary. Replace it with a new one. The cam could also be the culprit. If a new rotor fiits too tightly, then try using another cam.

Re: Stuck Distributor Rotor
Adjust the points and check the timing, it may not even need adjustment, checking the timing is described in the owners instruction book

Re: Stuck Distributor Rotor
Update: I got the rotor off with a couple taps from under it. Glad to know it wasn’t me. Thanks for the responses.

Re: Stuck Distributor Rotor
Good job CN.
Next you will be rebuilding the distributor. Then the engine, then the paint, then the glass, then the upholstery, then the tires, then the brakes, then the pinstriping. It's called Model A project creep. Almost as deadly as the corana virus. |

Re: Stuck Distributor Rotor
I have a theory that my first Model A did unspeakable things at night in the garage with the lawn mower! No more mowers but I now have 4 Model As.
