Default Fender braces

Wondering if any of you have used the brackets to replace the Y yoke bracket holding the fenders in place? 1940 Ford If so, heavy enough to be worth buying or should i just build some? Sales fellow at Drakes had no idea how or what they were made of or how sturdily built.

Thanks,

Fourdy

I used the rear fender braces from Drake for a 40 Tudor sedan on both sides. They worked

Hi; The Drake front replacement types for St Rods are great and popular. Yes you can make your own.. it helps to have a good pair to copy. Newc

Newc has good advice.
I bought a set from Drake on my first convert, a '40 and then made my own on the other three converts I did.
They are not difficult to make.

I'm feeling that you both agree that they are strong enough to do the job. From the pic I can't tell if they are flimsy.

Thanks - Fourdy

You might want to make something like this out of 1/8 x 3/4 x3/4
or 1/8 x 1 x 1 angle iron. They are bolted to holes already in the stock frame.
I didn't drill any new holes. You could also use square tubing. Cap it off and drill
access holes to hide the bolt heads. Still working after 20 years.

I've used the Drake ones and they are plenty strong.
